The Group 3 Liverpool City Cup win by Triple Elegance provided an important pedigree update for next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The Chris Waller trained Triple Elegance (Mossman-Mary Machree, by Quest For Fame) has been a revelation since the turn of the new year and made the transition to stakes grade here after a cavalier 6.5 lengths Rosehill win in early February. Emerald Thoroughbreds will offer a full-brother to Triple Elegance as LOT 516 at Easter this year. The colt will be sold as part of Easter Session II, which has already proven itself a reliable source of top class winners in its three years to date. Mary Machree was a Group 2 placed mare and at stud she has produced three winners.
In Melbourne today, MASTER HARRY ($100,000 2009 Classic, 3c Magic Albert-Sri Lanka) backed up his Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes success when too good for older horses in the Listed Bob Hoysted (1000m) at Flemington. Sold by Kanangra Stud, Master Harry is now living up to the potential he showed on debut at Flemington last March and he relished the return to the straight course today, taking his record to three wins in five starts for earnings of $260,000. Nominatons for this year’s Scone Sale feature a Tiger Hill half-sister to Master Harry.
KING DIAMOND ($80,000 2008 Premier, 4g Danewin-Kali Smytzer) announced himself as a leading Adelaide Cup candidate when proving too strong under 58.5kg in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality. The son of Danewin was prepared for sale by Makybe and secured by Slade Bloodstock. After showing promise as a three-year-old, he has come into his own this time in, winning four of his past five starts and his earnings now top $275,000.
Today’s impressive juvenile wins by Foxwedge at Warwick Farm and Golden Archer at Flemington underlined the type of graduates Easter consistently produces, in addition to a pointer to what buyers can expect at this year’s sale. Both youngsters are Easter graduates and both have siblings entered for this year’s renewal, which will be held at Newmarket from April 5-7.
FOXWEDGE ($925,000 2010 Easter, 2c Fastnet Rock-Forest Native) put himself in the frame for this season’s juvenile riches when a dominant winner of the Clarry Conners Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm. Trainer John O’Shea has long held the view Foxwedge is an outstanding youngster and the Fastnet Rock colt looks like living up to it based on his two lengths win over Darley’s $600,000 Easter filly Anise. Foxwedge was offered for sale by Luskin Park Stud and secured by De Burgh Equine on behalf of owner Dr Edmund Bateman, who also races Golden Slipper second favourite and fellow Easter graduate Satin Shoes. Luskin Park Stud will offer a full-sister as LOT 248 at Easter.
GOLDEN ARCHER ($80,000 2010 Easter, 2c Rock Of Gibraltar-Viennetta) has been one of Melbourne’s most consistent two-year-olds this season and made it four wins in five starts in taking the Listed Streets Ice Cream Stakes. This was his second black type win, following a hit and run mission to Tasmania last month and he has already earned connections nearly $250,000. Sefton Park will offer a More Than Ready half sister to Golden Archer as LOT 108 at Easter. Viennetta (by Pins) was a top class racemare, winning five times up to Group 2 level and Golden Archer is her lone foal to race.
