The recently concluded Inglis Premier Yearling Sale has seen some stunning results achieved by Victorian breeders and stallions.
All key indicators are up on results from 12 months ago, with this year’s Session 1 breaking through the $30million barrier for only the second time in the sale’s history, bettering the $28.8million last year and well up on the $23.3million 2009 figure.
Victorian vendors supplied the top ten lots at the sale and all bar two of the 19 horses that sold for $200,000 or more.
Gerry Ryan’s Limerick Lane had a select draft of five and sold three of them at an average $158,333.
The Grange Thoroughbreds team led by Gary Mudgway and Kylie Wood had a great sale to finish second and also supplied the equal top lot from the sale along with another Victorian farm in Cathy Hains’ Burnewang North Pastoral who rounded out the top three vendors list.
Nine of the top ten vendors from the sale were also Victorian ensuring it was a clean sweep across the board with Eliza Park only one of two farms to crack the $2million in turnover.
“Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria congratulates all our members for their spectacular success achieved at both Session 1 & 2 of the sale, said TBV President Tim Johnson.”
“Victorian breeders deserve every bit of this success and we applaud them for the way they have showcased this State to an international audience.
The level of capital investment in Victoria over the past five years is evidenced by the results here and it is especially pleasing to see two relative new operations finish in the top three vendors list.”
“Victorian stallions have again proven themselves to be at the top when it comes to return on investment, a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by astute breeders in the past few years.”
The progeny of Bel Esprit ($175,000), Churchill Downs ($200,000), Elvstroem ($150,000), God’s Own ($160,000), Host ($160,000), Magnus ($130,000) and Shinzig ($160,000) were all high achievers in the sales ring with prices as much as ten times their service fees from that year.
